Simple Ribbed Scarf for Him Knitting Pattern

Work this scarf in one piece from end to end. Garter stitch and slipped stitches make a rich ribbed texture that looks good on both sides. Knitted-cord edges keep the sides neat.

Choose Version I in fingering-weight yarn for a lighter scarf, or Version II in worsted-weight yarn for a longer wrap. Optional tubular edges and simpler cast-on and bind-off choices are included.

Both versions are unisex. These are finished measurements after blocking, with the pattern’s approximate metric sizes.

Check your gauge for the stated size and yarn amount.

• Version I: 550 yd / 503 m of fingering-weight yarn.
• Version II: 820 yd / 750 m of worsted-weight yarn.
• Main needles: US 5 / 3.75 mm for Version I; US 8 / 5 mm for Version II.
• Ribbing needles: US 4 / 3.5 mm or US 7 / 4.5 mm.
• Optional tubular-edge needles: US 3 / 3.25 mm or US 6 / 4 mm.
• Use straight needles or 24 in / 60 cm circular needles. You also need a tapestry needle; blocking pins, wires and waste yarn are optional.

Gauge: Version I: 25 stitches and 46 rows per 4 in / 10 cm. Version II: 21 stitches and 36 rows per 4 in / 10 cm. Measure in the garter and slipped-rib pattern after blocking.

Level: Beginner, as listed in the pattern. You will knit, purl and slip stitches while working flat. The optional tubular cast-on and bind-off need extra care; simpler choices are included.
